He’s in Southern California, about 12 miles east of downtown Los Angeles in the San Gabriel Valley, and he’s been pastoring in El Monte since 1991.
What is Audacious Faith Ministries, and what’s the heart behind it?
It’s the movement Jay founded to call believers to live boldly, love intentionally, and lead others to the hope of Jesus especially the overlooked and hurting, helping them rediscover identity and purpose in Christ.
What’s one key part of Jay’s family story that shaped his faith journey?
He met his wife in junior high, dated in high school, and through her family he started going to church. They married at 19, have three children, and three grandchildren by blood (plus a few “bonus” grandkids).
What major hardship did Jay go through, and what did he learn from it?
He went through severe financial struggle, losing his home and filing bankruptcy, along with painful ministry conflict. He learned to stop trying to “force outcomes” and to seek God’s kingdom first, trusting God to add what’s needed in His timing.
What message does Jay want people to remember when they feel far from God?
God hasn’t stopped seeing, knowing, or loving them. Jay’s encouragement is: seek Him and you’ll find Him, and remember that pain and discomfort can be a deposit toward your destiny.
