Question & Answer

Terri, you were crowned Miss USA in 1982. What did that experience teach you about success and fulfillment?

Winning Miss USA was an incredible experience, but it also revealed something important to me. I had spent much of my life striving for achievements thinking they would make me feel fulfilled. When I finally won, I realized that external success alone doesn’t create inner fulfillment. That realization eventually led me on a deeper journey of healing, self-love, and understanding my true worth.

You often talk about “worthiness.” What does being worthy really mean to you?

Worthiness means recognizing that you are valuable simply because you exist. You don’t become worthy when you achieve something or fix everything in your life—you’re worthy right now. When we truly accept that, we stop performing for approval and begin living authentically, which opens the door to peace, joy, and abundance.

You’ve shared openly about difficult experiences in your early life. How did those challenges shape your personal growth?

For many years I carried unprocessed pain from past experiences, including abuse that I had suppressed. That pain showed up as anger and emotional chaos in my life. Healing began when I started doing deep inner work—learning to acknowledge my feelings, reconnect with my inner child, and give myself the love and compassion I had never offered before. That process transformed everything in my life.

Your work often focuses on intuition and listening to inner guidance. How did that show up in your own journey?

One of the biggest turning points in my life happened when I listened to an inner knowing that told me to leave college, even though it seemed illogical at the time. Following that intuition set off a chain of events that eventually led me to the Miss USA pageant and many opportunities afterward. I’ve learned that when we honor that inner voice—the guidance of our soul or spirit—life begins to flow in extraordinary ways.

Today you coach women and lead the Women Leaders of Love community. What is your mission?

My mission is to help women get off the hamster wheel of stress, striving, and self-doubt. When women learn to truly love and honor themselves, they reconnect with their worth and align with their purpose. From that place, they can create lives filled with peace, balance, abundance, and miracles—not only for themselves but also for their families and communities.
