What happens when the diagnosis you’ve lived with for decades turns out to be wrong? And what happens when, years later, you face another incredibly rare diagnosis that changes your life all over again?
Meet Jean Sharon Abbott—keynote speaker, author, and certified coach whose story truly is one in a million… twice. ✨
Jean lived for nearly 33 years believing she had cerebral palsy, a diagnosis that profoundly impacted her life and her ability to do everyday things. Then she discovered she had actually been misdiagnosed and was living with DRD, a rare neurological disorder.
The transformation that followed was nothing short of incredible. 🙌
After changing medications, Jean experienced the exhilaration of being able to do things she hadn’t been able to do in years. She went from having her young children—her 3-year-old and 5-year-old—help put her to bed, to being able to stand upright and once again experience what it felt like to be a fully able-bodied mother. ❤️
But Jean’s journey wasn’t over.
Later, she faced a second one-in-a-million diagnosis. What was initially believed to be ovarian cancer turned out to be an extremely rare form of appendix cancer.
Her journey ultimately led to an extraordinary surgery in December that included the removal of her appendix, spleen, gallbladder, part of her small intestine, part of her stomach, and a full hysterectomy. 🙏
And yet, when you talk with Jean, what you hear isn’t bitterness.
You hear faith.
You hear gratitude.
You hear joy.
You hear hope.
You hear grit. 💪❤️
Jean shared how her faith carried her through both of these incredibly difficult journeys. She talked about the overwhelming gratitude she felt when she finally discovered the truth about her first diagnosis and experienced the freedom that came with being able to do things she once thought were no longer possible.
Today, Jean is a John Maxwell Certified Speaker, Trainer & Coach and a Certified Purpose Factor Coach. She is the author of Misdiagnosed 📖 and already has an idea for her second book.
She absolutely loves speaking from the stage and helping others transform life’s unexpected detours into opportunities for purpose, growth, and impact. 🎤🔥
And there is something especially exciting ahead for Jean: her first-ever women’s retreat in spring 2027—and there is already a waiting list! 🎉🙌
Jean’s story is a powerful reminder that our greatest detours can become the pathways to our greatest purpose. ✨
She has faced misdiagnosis, unimaginable physical challenges, major surgery, and moments that could have left her discouraged. Instead, Jean continues to choose faith over fear, gratitude over bitterness, and purpose over circumstance. 🙏❤️
Today, she isn’t simply surviving her story—she’s using it to help others rewrite theirs.
If you’ve ever wondered whether there can be purpose on the other side of your hardest season, this conversation is for you. 💫
Sometimes the journey we never would have chosen becomes the very journey that prepares us to make the greatest impact. 🔥
